This post, much like the surprise “discovery” of your work via Talking Scared, gave my foggy, frustrated brain a much-needed dose of courage. Thank you so much for sharing your struggles, fears, and victories. The latter so often seems impossible.
Thank you for sharing this, Gemma! You are certainly not alone.
I just turned in my next novel about suicide ideation, with a Sept. 10th release date to coincide with Suicide Prevention Day. I know the struggle is real, not over dramatic at all.
Great article. Having a mental health care system one can turn to does help. I had to take a different path from being in the States for these kinds of neurodiverse issues. I had to pour myself into specific types of philosophies and speculative fiction to deal with these kinds of mental outlooks, as the prospect of mortal death has become front and center ever since i had a near death experience with it 3 decades ago. You have covered a lot of similar states I've also dealt with, and it is great of you coming out and being openly honest here about all these issues, and where you are headed with healing yourself. Thank you for writing this.
I love this post, Gemma, and much of it is very relatable to me (I also have ADHD). It’s rather astonishing what huge curves your life can take when you get the proper care, no? xx
I...did not know that ADHD could make someone passively suicidal. This explains so damn much. Now maybe I can make some progress with my heavy jacket, too. ❤️❤️❤️ Thank you.
Thank you for sharing this. I haven't seen anyone articulate passive ideation quite this way before. Oof! It makes so much sense. Well done!
And I'm very happy you got good news on the medical front.
Thank you for this Gemma. You are not alone, and I needed to hear it.
I feel all of this!

I really needed to read this tonight. Thank you, Gemma. 🖤
