To all the authors who submitted stories for the ROOTS OF MY FEARS anthology:
I was blown away by the sheer volume, quality and beauty of the hundreds of stories I received. Tales of heritage, belonging, identity, lore.
Choosing only one was torturous, so I have decided to accept three. I wish it was more.
I have informed the three authors I selected and will announce a full TOC very soon. I’m incredibly excited about the final line-up, and think this anthology is truly special.
There’s a cover reveal coming soon, as well. Keep your eyes peeled.
I’m now in the process of sending out rejection emails. This will take me some time.
I regret due to volume that rejections cannot be personalised. This means I can’t go into specific details or detailed feedback. Suffice to say I had a difficult time winnowing down such a mountain of talent.
Once again, I extend my thanks to the writing community for the respect they have shown me as an editor and the trust placed in me by forwarding on your stories. Guidelines were largely followed and communication (mostly) respectful. My heart is full.
If your story wasn’t chosen, please do not be disheartened. This was an eye-opening experience for me, in terms of realising just how talented the community is.
I would also like to say this: opening ROOTS up to submissions introduced me to voices I am thrilled to offer a small platform to.
Editors: inviting the same authors to your projects time and again might feel like good business, but you are missing out on some extraordinary writing by doing so.
